Preparing to fight the flood is a physical task and we have a few tips to share. Please keep in mind the following pointers and always use proper technique when sandbagging.
Keep a strong and supported back when handling sandbags and avoid bending more than 20 degrees in any direction.
Heavy weights should be kept below shoulder height and above the knees. When holding a sandbag keep it close to the body. Also limit reaching with arms when passing the sandbags.
Sandbags must be passed carefully. Do not throw sandbags.
It is important to pivot your feet and do not twist through the back while handling sandbags.
If you are interested in volunteering please call 311.
